Extension Work

Insect Pest Management(IPM) in corn, forages, sorghum, small grains, soybeans, and stored grains.

Stored Grain IPM Program in Tennessee in Conjunction with The University of Kentucky has been funded by a SR-IPM grant for the second time. This was a renewal of the previous SR-IPM grant funding in cooperation with the Ag. Engineering and Entomology & Plant Pathology at the University of Tennessee and University of Kentucky. These funds will be used to improve the management and study of stored grain insects in both states by utilizing workshops, on farm bin management practices by both institutions to determine a more effective solution to controlling insects in farm bins. This study in on-going and will be continued into the next several years by these institutes. Other programs such as corn, grain sorghum and small grain insect pest management using scouting, insect pheromone traps, field days and farm demonstrations to provide end users better management techniques to reduce insect damage and increase profits in these crops. Cooperation with other departments at the University of Tennessee and University of Kentucky will be continued to provide other states with new developments as discovered.
