Dr. Melvin Newman, ProfessorExtension WorkDiseases of field crops (soybeans, cotton, corn, sorghum, wheat and small grains). Dr. Newman serves as extension plant pathologist at The University of Tennessee in the Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology in Jackson, TN. The majority of his time is concentrated on the control of diseases in cotton, corn, soybean, and wheat. He is responsible for all disease control recommendations of field crops except tobacco for Tennessee. This includes the development of statewide educational programs covering cotton, corn, soybean, and small grains. Activities include conducting training for producers and agents and diagnosing problem areas of production. Other activities are writing publications, presenting programs, preparing articles for newspapers and magazines, and conducting on-farm disease control demonstrations and tests. Links |
