Extension & Teaching Program The three missions (Research, Teaching, and Service) of our land-grant institution are intricately woven into the mission of the Dogwood Group. Although research is the cornerstone of the Dogwood Group, teaching and service are valuable components. Many graduate students earn their degrees while working with one or more team scientists, including extension specialists, on several lines of our research. They have opportunities to write papers for publications and present their findings at various meetings. This gives them a very broad experience in biological and agricultural sciences, as well as in scientific communication. Finally, our research would be of little value if we did not make a concerted effort to get our findings back to our stakeholders: nursery owners, landscapers, home gardeners, and our peers in our scientific professions. Extension specialists not only are a valued component of our research team, but they are experts in disseminating scientific information back to the public. |
