THE S282 The meeting was called to order at the LSU Burden Research Center Conference Facility by McGawley at 8:00 am on 10/16/00 with the participants listed above in attendance. Welcoming remarks and Administrative Advisor comments were made by Drs. J.P. Snow (Head, LSU Dept. Plant Pathology & Crop Physiology) and Fred W. Knapp (Administrative Advisor), respectively. Twenty-minute- duration state reports were presented by official representatives of Virginia, Texas, Tennessee, North and South Carolina, Mississippi, and Minnesota between 9:00 am and 11:40 am. Dr. R.L. Rogers (Vice Chancellor for Research & Director of the Louisiana Agricultural Experiment Station) presented an overview of Agriculture in Louisiana between 11:40 am and noon. Following lunch, the group toured the LSU Rural Life Museum from 1:00 pm - 1:45 pm. State presentations continued from 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm with reports from representatives of Kentucky, Georgia, Florida, Arkansas, Alabama, and Louisiana. The meeting was resumed at the Burden Research Center at 8:30 am on 10/17/00. Other meeting attenders listed above made presentations between 8:30 and 10:30 am.

The business meeting was held from 10:30 - 11:30 am on 10/17/00. The first order of business was to vote on where to meet in 2001. Auburn, Virginia, and Mississippi are possible meeting sites in the near future. Dr. McLean made a motion to invite the group to Auburn next year. J. L. Starr seconded this, and the motion passed.

There was discussion about when to meet each year. The group generally wants to stay with the traditional time in early November. S. A. Lewis moved to have the meeting after November 1 next year; seconded by D. W. Dickson. There were many conflicts and the motion failed. The next Chairman and host will work out a meeting date.

R. S. Hussey extended commendations on behalf of the group to LSU, and specifically to Dr. McGawley for hosting an excellent meeting.

Dr. McGawley, as Chairman, indicated that a mid-term report was needed, and S. A. Lewis, E. L. Davis, and E. C. McGawley would put it together using summary statements from each representative. An impact statement is also needed as part of that report.

Dr. Fred Knapp, administrative advisor, indicated that we should start thinking about our next project already. He stated that the project could be a long-term project of 7-8 years. R. S. Hussey asked the group what should we work on next. E. C. McGawley, E. L. Davis, and S. A. Lewis will gather ideas and send them out by e-mail for comment.

The meeting adjourned at 11:20 a.m.

Respectfully submitted,
S. A. Lewis
