Things are moving very fast on this project... which is one of the goals of the project.

An inbred line based on two backcrosses to a Tennessee pumpkin isolate has been developed and high quality genomic DNA submitted to both the Joint Genome Institute and 454 Life Sciences.

The initial 454 sequencing of the inbred strain is completed at a depth of 20X.  In addition, a 2X coverage has been generated using Sanger sequencing at the JGI.  The challenge now is integrating the two data sets to achieve a composite assembly.  The JGI is working on this now (August 2006).
